01

Overview

ScreenSage is a macOS menu bar app that helps you build healthier screen habits with eye care reminders, guided breaks and customizable break screens. Your privacy matters to us, and ScreenSage is built with a privacy-first approach.

02

Data Collection

ScreenSage does not collect, transmit or share any personal data. The app runs entirely offline on your Mac.

03

Data Stored on Your Device

ScreenSage stores the following on your Mac, inside the app’s sandboxed container:

  • PreferencesStored in macOS UserDefaults: timer durations, sets before a long break, snooze length, reminder style, menu bar display options, your chosen break screen preset, which displays show breaks (including the name of a display you choose), behaviour options such as hiding breaks during calls or over full-screen apps, and whether you’ve finished onboarding.
  • Break progressYour current break streak, best streak and break XP.
  • Break screen designsYour customizations to built-in presets and any custom break screens you create, saved as files in the app’s Application Support folder.
  • Images you addWhen you add an image or GIF to a custom break screen, ScreenSage saves a copy of that file, along with its original file name, in the app’s Application Support folder. The app can only read files you select yourself.

This data never leaves your device. It is only used to make the app work and to remember your settings between sessions.

04

Call and Full-Screen Detection

To avoid interrupting you, ScreenSage can hide break reminders while you’re on a call, presenting, or using a full-screen app. To do this, it checks:

  • Whether any microphone on your Mac is currently in use. ScreenSage never records, listens to or accesses any audio.
  • The size and position of on-screen windows and which app owns them. ScreenSage cannot see window titles or what’s inside any window.

These checks happen only on your Mac, at the moment they’re needed. Their results are never stored or sent anywhere. You can turn off either behaviour in the app’s settings.

05

Notifications

ScreenSage uses macOS local notifications to tell you when it’s time to take a break or get back to work. It asks for notification permission through the standard macOS permission prompt. No notification data is sent to any external server.

06

Launch at Login

ScreenSage registers itself to open when you log in, so your reminders keep running. You can turn this off at any time in System Settings → General → Login Items.

07

Network Access

ScreenSage does not access the internet. The app has no network functionality, does not communicate with any servers, and does not include any analytics, tracking or telemetry of any kind.

08

Third-Party Services

ScreenSage does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services, SDKs or APIs.

09

Deleting Your Data

You can remove custom break screens and reset presets from within the app. To delete everything ScreenSage has stored, quit the app, delete it, and remove the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.manikagnish.ScreenSage.

10

Children’s Privacy

ScreenSage does not collect any data from anyone, so it is safe for people of all ages to use.
